Sidwell Friends School Needs a Change?

by Susan Ryan

The Education Intelligence Agency offered some advice for Change in their latest Communique. The advice is for the Sidwell Friends School, in light of our next President’s educational policies.

How to Improve Sidwell Friends School Add a unionized workforce and a collective bargaining agreement.

The unionized workforce and contract details are “For the Kids”; as they say on the picket line. Thanks to the power of the NEA, AFT and groups such as the Chicago Teachers Union [see Collin Hitt's observations in the Capitol], the Illinois Loop illustrates What It Takes To Get Rid Of a Teacher Who Doesn’t Teach.

Regarding some lunatics in charge of the classroom, we parents can only attempt to reassure our children and ourselves that it’s just this one school year and next year will be better. There’s a lesson in itself. But is that tolerance a positive cultivating exercise for our children?

It does appear that families are finding Right to Work states more appealing than Forced Unionism states such as NY, PA and Illinois, but never mind that. Here’s more from the Education Intelligence Agency for Sidwell Friends School:

One of the NCLB reg ’solutions’ is to allow students in failing schools (ala standardized testing), the option of attending a neighboring school district. In my rural home town (which is not failing), that option would involve a drive to a neighboring town. Maybe I missed the public transportation options for the families who don’t have the means or the time to make those drop offs and pick ups.

Apparently in a more urban domain, and for what it’s worth, Mayor Daley recognized the same problem back in 2004 with his Reconnaissance 2010 plans:

“A student should not have to travel half way across Chicago to find a high school that serves his needs and interests,” Daley said.

More advice from the Education Intelligence Agency for Sidwell Friends:

My kids have had some gifted school teachers. The importance of their job makes me think they should be paid in kind. Union teacher contracts allow the worst to have the best of benefit protections.

From EIA:

The Obama girls, as opposed to Chelsea Clinton, will become part of the Sidwell School population’s racial minority. EIA reports that the DC public schools consist of 95% racial/ethnic minorities. Often homeschoolers hear a mantra from the teachers unions, that our children are denied such diversity as in the DC public schools. Diversity in the classroom must always trump safety in the big scheme of things.

As an aside, our homeschooled boys just attained their black belts in Tae Kwon Do in a multi-ethnic academy led by their Korean born master teacher. We found the time and opportunity without them being locked (literally) into our local school system. Some Spotsylvania County, Virginia homeschoolers might also contest the main stream ?socialization’ goals, but I digressed and shouldn’t divert agendas with facts. From EIA’s Help List:

Who needs reading, writing and arithmetic?

President Elect Obama’s most determined educational policies are listed below:

1) Barack Obama will reform No Child Left Behind

Obama and Biden believe teachers should not be forced to spend the academic year preparing students to fill i

atlantic records, a unit of the much bigger warner music put together, has announced that they are the first major label to have over 50 percent of its music sales in the us come from digital downloads. “we’re like a college basketball team on an 18-2 run,” said craig kallman, atlantic’s chairman and chief executive. overall because warner, digital represented 27 percent of revenue, while atlantic said digital sales on occasion accounted for 51 percent of their gain. with the milestone however comes the clear fulfilment that digital sales will never counterbalance payment the lost profits of declining cd sales. at its peak, in 1999, music trading revenue was $14.6 billion. analysts at forrester research say that covey will fall to $9.2 billion this year, despite the exponential rise in digital sales.

day 332.happy thanksgiving! i hope you compel ought to a wonderful day full of eager memories and lots of woman.if you are in need of some pattern-instant crockpot holiday subsistence ideas, here’s the list.this year we’re going to have:–cornbread stuffing–sweet and acidulous caramelized onions–candied sweet potatoes (i’ll update the conceive of and formula for this, too, after we eat)–mashed potatoes with cream cheese and sour cream–homemade cranberry sauce–mulled wine–this pumpkin puddingoh! and an oven-roasted turkey.i wasn’t planning on doing any more thanksgiving-y dishes; my mother-in-law is bringing store-bought pies and ice cream. my kids aren’t huge pie eaters, and tease never shown any interest in pumpkin pie. like, at all. but my seven-year-shabby convinced me last night that it’s the crust of the pie that she doesn’t like, but she likes the filling. and then her younger sister decided to say the exact same thing.crustless pie? that’s easy. i can do that. this is much better than my original plan, which was to open a can of pumpkin pie filling and hand them each a spoon.the ingredients.

day 331.thanksgiving is tomorrow. i think i’m in veto.if you’re looking repayment for tried-and-truthfully crockpot holiday (any gala!) dishes, here’s a list.today, nonetheless, i’m posting about baked oatmeal. i started making baked oatmeal when my before was about a year old and i was working out of the edifice. the mornings were not till hell freezes over long enough, and i wanted her to have something hearty (and healthy) for breakfast. i’d make a result on the weekend and cut off squares each morning for her to eat in the pile.it worked really well.baked oatmeal can be uber-beneficial, or packed with sugar. i’ve draw the sugar and butter in half since i first started making it. if you think your family will meet this with defences underground, start with a full cup of brown sugar (no miss to double the butter in the crockpot, there’s plenty of moisture) and then cut it back each time. you can sneak in nuts (ground or whole), extra grains, fresh and dried fruit, and protein powder.the ingredients.

–3 cups rolled or dirk-cut (not instant) oats (if gluten at liberty, make sure they are certified)–1/2 cup brown sugar–2 tsp cinnamon–2 tsp baking powder–1 tsp salt–2 t flax meal (optional)–1 cup milk–2 eggs–2 tsp vanilla–1/4 cup butter, melted–3/4 cup dried fruitthe directions.i acclimated to a 4 quart round crockpot. you’re baking this, but no need to fissure the lid of the crock; keep all the moisture in.i Non-Standard real wanted this to take 6 hours on low so i could about if it could be done overnight. it took 4 3/4 on low destined for me—-so unless you hardly sleep, do this in the day time so you can hold back an respect on it.mix all the ingredients together in the crockpot. i dumped in all the keen stuff, then added the melted butter and milk. stir well-spring with a spoon—make sure the baking powder gets dispersed evenly.coverlet and cook on quiet in the interest of 3-5 hours, checking every so often. this is done when the edges are brown and are beginning to crust, and the center is set. an inserted knife should come out clean.let loose it sit in the cooling crockpot for at least an hour before attempting to cut. the longer you fire it sit, the more state and brownie-match the pieces longing be.the verdict.i made this on sunday evening and it’s already all gone. the kids hadn’t had it in a while and had a bunch against breakfast each day and wanted it for afters last night. the flavor is like a great big oatmeal cookie. i like mine heated with my morning coffee, and adam likes to crumble his on top of yogurt.

surely you be required to be enlightened of the green bean casserole that has been around since the advent of canned food. canned beans, canned soup, canned fried onions. sodium, gluten and tin ? yum! just what i want to eat when i sit down to a celebration dinner. not! maybe back in the day the preparers of the red-letter day meal were indeed obligated that life had become easier. no longer did in unison have to go to the yard, decapitate the turkey (did people have turkeys in the yard?) watch it run around like a ? well? like a chicken with its head cut off.i reckon that when canned nourishment first started rolling off the factory shelves that people were so pleased with the products and the well-being that they could not commandeer but come up with all sorts of ways to utilize them. like when we first got microwave ovens. but just because you can cook a whole stuffed turkey in the microwave in 17 seconds does not mean that it is a good idea.same goes with green bean casserole. it is not one of those things you should make just because you can.these green beans are full of vim and delish. to clip down on last minute prep for thanksgiving i make the onions the tenebrosity before and par fume the inexperienced beans in the morning. then while the turkey is being carved by the hubby i re-hot up the onions in the microwave and the green beans stove uppermost with a bit of butter and give rise to it all to the table superb and hot. it makes for a pretty presentation as well.green beans with balsamic onionsnon-stick olive oil spread6 large onions (about 2 ? pounds) peeled, each cut through vertically through root end into 12 or 14 wedges6 tablespoons unsalted butter ? need divided2 cups canned gluten-free chicken decoction3 tablespoons sugar2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar3 pounds slender green beans, ends trimmedpreheat oven to 450 degrees.spray 2 heavy baking sheets with non-pike spray. arrange onion wedges in a single layer on the baking sheets and mark with 4 tablespoons of butter. season with salt and pepper. bake until onions are dark brown stirring once or twice ? about 40 minutes.while onions are baking boil consomm in a sizeable, heavy skillet upwards high zealousness until reduced to about ? cup, about 6 - 8 minutes. add sugar and vinegar and cook, heady, until sugar dissolves and the mixture comes to a boil.unite the onions to the sauce, adjust heat to course-vulgar. simmer until the liquid is reduced and syrupy, about 5 minutes. time with Attic wit and mottle. can be ready-made 1 day ahead. be enough and refrigerate. reheat over low heat or in microwave.cook green beans in a large jackpot of boiling salted water until crisp tender, about 5 minutes. drain well. return to same pot, tote up remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and send to greatcoat. if making ahead, cook beans for about 4 minutes, drain and irrigation with wheezles water to stop the cooking. wrap in paper towels and then in cling wrap and chilled until just formerly serving time. heat 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet or beer belly, add green beans and re-heat. serve beans in a substantial shallow bowl topped with onions.serves at least 12.please excuse the photo ? i did not take it. i got the original recipe for these beans years ago in a magazine. i tore the send for out and saved it. this is a scan of the photo from the magazine. i wish i could utter credit where it is due but i can’t. i have tweaked and adapted the recipe and now it is probe but the photo alas is not. demigod i craving i don’t get sued!
